Despite the delay, expectations are high for the game’s release and the hope is that the additional time will result in a stellar gaming experience.Īs of now, fans will have to wait patiently for further updates regarding the release date of Path of Exile 2. While the exact release date for Path of Exile 2 remains unknown, fans can expect a game filled with high-quality content and improvements over its predecessor. However, they are actively working to scale back and control the game’s size to ensure a well-crafted experience. Grinding Gear Games has also acknowledged the challenge of scope creep, where the team’s ambition to include numerous high-quality bosses in each area resulted in an overly massive game. The team’s commitment to delivering a superior gaming experience has led to increased development time as they strive to learn from past mistakes and create a polished product. The game director spoke openly about the delay, acknowledging that the studio had been overly optimistic about meeting previous release dates. This shift in development plans, along with the desire to create a high-quality game, has caused the prolonged development time. The delay in the release date can be attributed to the game’s evolution from a simple expansion to a standalone feature. The game is now slated for a closed beta test on June 7, 2024, with no confirmed release date following the beta. Which is not to say that they won't go back to the 3 month schedule afterwards, but hopefully they'll make sure to leave enough time whenever other projects like ExileCon are underway at the same time.Developer Grinding Gear Games has announced that the highly anticipated sequel, Path of Exile 2, will not be released this year as originally expected. In general however keep in mind that 3 releases instead of 4 this year will mean less money, so they're making sacrifices in that regard to make sure to deliver a proper product, and I'm glad they're finally doing that after trying to bruteforce the 3 month schedule so many times over the years. It would still be economically unwise to do releases at the exact same times of course. I don't know how much chatter there was about D4 at the time or when it started development. The D4 timing may have influenced the PoE2 schedule, but keep in mind they had been working on that already by the time the "don't you guys have phones" thing happened. That's alright, just release it when it's ready. The original announcement at exilecon included statements saying that the beta and release could easily be delayed. So they learnt from that and allotted more time for each league to ensure they could still be finished properly despite the ExileCon preparations running simultaneously. Still overal ahead of schedule on delirium, but poe2 art asset creation is stunted due to this. Last time it had a significant impact on the timings and how complete and polished the leagues released around that time were (remember that final Metamorph boss? me neither). They're mainly doing it to have more time for ExileCon I think.
